Mothers' Day: Thank-you Mother

Published on May 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM

Thank-you mother,

Mother, mother… what a weight you carried.

The weight of being my protector, being my nurturer… but you did it so effortlessly, at least so it seemed.

You cradled me, you held me, you lifted me, you changed me, you took the time to feed me, you cried for me, you dreamed for me, you dressed me, you loved me, as you knew you could…

You were my protector, my first defender, my supporter and reminder…

Sometimes I wish you were more present with me, sometimes I wish I could have held on to the positive things a little more, sometimes I wish you stayed close with me, even as I grew up, but sometimes there was distance, perhaps life made it to be.

Perhaps I did not know of all the responsibilities you had, so you focused your energy.

When I grew up, I had dreams, you listened to me, even if I sat and talked for hours, or for hours at least it seemed.

You reminded me and believed in me, you truly believed in me, and I learned to believe in myself also, it took time, but I was grateful I could ask you, and you would with light remind me.

Mother, you did so much, you worked so hard, not only for me, but in our life and for our family.

Mother, Allah (SWT) gave you this role, because He knew you were the only one for it - He knew this life was for you, and you had the strength for it… You would be the best mother for me… to help me grow, to be understanding of my personality, my interests, my habits, and be there for me…

Now mother I am older, I hope you are pleased with me. I hope you are pleased with me, what else more can I hope for, except that you are now, with Allah, pleased with me?

Still I have ideas, for years since I was small, I had my own little space, a space just for me, I learned this early on… That I love, too.

Happy Mothers’ Day,

Thank-you for loving me mom, as I grew up. It is my job also, to try and understand you.

It is my job also, to care about you.
